New formal pic
My wife and I attended a conference and formal banquet this weekend.

Yes, I'm wearing a belt with a waistcoat. I needed it to wear my dirk, which you can't see in this pic. The sporran is semi-dress instead of dress, but I think the holstein calfskin works with the black jacket and white shirt.

Panache wanted to see a picture of how I open champagne bottles with a dirk. Unfortunately, this one did not come out very well. The technique worked great, though.

Very nice shots, your corkscrew looks dangerous.

Thanks, guys. You can see the dirk at my side in this one. I used it to cut my food, too, much to the amusement of those at my table.

Looks great.

Bob,
Nice pictures. I have been wondering how I am to wear my dirk without a belt for our upcoming Burn's night next week. I was thinking about using my leather sporran belt for the knife and the chain belt for the sporran, hmmm I'd better try it out before Saturday. You and your wife look great and it sounds you both had a great time.
Thanks for the demo on openning a bottle with your dirk! One question though: How much champagne is lost?
I don't think I dare do that with my dirk after getting the carbon steel blade sharpened to a razor edge (Haggis everywhere beware! )
Cheers

No champagne is lost. If your dirk has a dull side, use that. If it's sharp on both sides for the full length, I wouldn't use it for this.
