New Years Day in the North Sea

New years day in the North Sea.

It was a lovely day if a little nippy but work just went on as normal. New Years day was just another working day.

Here are a few pictures to illustrate the fact.

This is the view out of my office window. The helideck is in the top of the picture.

    And here is my office.

Inside the sickbay. Not alot of space.

We had a supply vessel come alongside to give us resupply. This is the ship approaching, viewed from the platform's lifeboat station.

    Backing up using thrusters.

Taking a stores container on board

    One of the cranes

    A food container coming up...

    Viewed from another position.

Testing the drinking water prior to receiving it from the boat.

I'm just worn out I tell ya!

Our nearest neigbours. About 10 miles (16km) away.

Well that is one way of spending New Years day, I suppose. If it is any comfort for you, we were and still are, just as marooned as you are, except I suspect, that our scenery is a wee tad better? Do you get a chance to wave at a passing whale ,or some such?

I've done that a few times before (and Christmas too).
And I'm really glad I don't have to do it anymore!

Great pics and despite working on NYD, it looks like a cool job.

John, this is scary. In the 2nd last picture you look exactly like a younger version of my uncle!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Nice photos, John. It's too bad you ended up working on New Years Day. I understand how that goes, had to work the holidays more times than I can count. But, as you say, it becomes just another work day.
