    OK this is next

I just finished writing a short, little dissertation (my fourth)—it's only 600+ pages and now on to the next project which is to play with my new camera.
As many of you know I teach digital photography, but my new project is with an 8 x 10 film camera! I've set up some parameters such as not enlarging the photos and working with no meter etc.
I don't have any idea what I'm going to do, but I'm going to find out. So here's a picture of me and my camera.

I did an earlier series with my iphone with similar limitations except that they were digital images.
    Any ideas?

Find guys like pipers or members of bands and use them as models to reproduce some of the studio shots in the Vintage Kilt Photo thread.

See if you can catch the flavor of those old photos. With a modern twist.

Oh, yeah. Period photos will be very cool. You might even get one of those flash gizmos.

Reminds me of the old joke: "Focus?"

OH BOY!!!! swings and tilts - oh my!!! Don't forget to take bellows extension into consideration when deciding on an exposure. Ah, the good old days, sometimes I do really miss them. (being nosy now - what brand/model camera? And, excuse me while I wipe up the drool)

Elmer Fudd took pictures of wildwife with a camera similar to that.

Zone VI 8 x 10. Yes, I'm very much aware of alllllllllllllllll the issues with such a camera—I started in photography with a 4 x 5 50+ years ago and still love the slowness of the work. A chance to compose under a dark cloth is a kind of meditation that I want as I grow older.

You know, I was thinking about the dark cloth when I was writing my first response - I wonder of a piece of tartan cloth would work?? But only on those colder days... it does get warm under there when fine tuning the focus.

Yes, photography was different in the "good old days". You took a picture, not pictures.
    Good luck with the project.

    Greg

PS. You'll hardly miss the opportunity to enlarge photos from that format.
