    Ottawa

    Hi all,

Followed you folks advise on going to Ottawa. Went to the Byward Market, Highlanders and the Parliament.

    A few pics -

Didn't start off the best though

One of the stands you recommended. Didn't get a chance by the time we were ready the line was fairly long -

    On to the Highlander -

    This sums it up -

    Holiday menu -

The reason for going there, the Wall of Scotch -

    Our hosts -

Had Thornbury Cider and was gifted a dram of Teachers (nice, strong smoke and good peat) since I was wearing my kilt. Lunch was a roast beef sandwich. Bread was great, sandwich overall was ok but very messy. More like an open face sandwich, needed a fork and knife to eat -

More to come once I get pics sorted out but I thought I'd end it with a shopping pic of Amy with a giant moose -

Well..I gotta tell ya'...that menu looks so enticing that I'm tempted to get in the car right now...oh damn...I haven't renewed my passport.

I always mention our local, The Duke Of Perth, and it prides itself on its selection of single malts but that just puts the Duke to shame. I should print out a picture and use it to embarrass the fella who orders the whisky for the Duke.

You aren't kidding! I want that Hunter's Stew so bad right now that I almost want to pay the premium price for rabbit here!

And I really love the Husband Day Care... brilliant

Looks like you had a great time, and looking forward to more pics.

Great pics. Glad you had a good time. Ottawa is one of my favorite spots and the Highlander is a really great pub.

A few more from Ottawa. First we continue on the food line. I give direction via food and rate travel by meals.

In one of the many meat shops. Quite a selection of charcuterie -

One of the many pastry places. This one is evidently is one Obama visited -

Now those are some cool fries -

I've never seen so many Irish Pubs even in Boston -

Outside the sidewalk of the last one -

    More coming

The Rideau Canal. My wife, Amy, skated on it as a kid. The also they have ice sculptures on the banks for what Amy says -

    On to Parliament!!

    The Centennial Flame outside -

On the tour a stop to admire the monarch's paintings. Amy believes this Elizabeth one is the original that survived the fire -

    The Senate -

The symbols represent the people of Canada -

Let's see if you can guess which one is the Monarch's -

A painting in the Senate room that caught my eye for some reason -

    Up to the Peace Tower.

A stop in the Memorial Chamber of course -

    The Altar -

One of the many plaques around the room -

One of 5 books that list those who have given the last full measure -

A close up of another -

I found these books very moving. The pages turn each day through all the names.

    Plaque outside the room -
