Photos from our Burns Supper

We had a great time at our 16th annual Robert Burns Supper in Franklin last night. I only got a few photos, so let's start!

This was the first Burns Night in a while that it wasn't bitterly cold, snowing, or threatening to snow. So my wife and I took the opportunity to have one of the other guests snap our photo outside.


Of course the evening began with the Address to the Haggis, performed once more by Arthur Hayes, who does an excellent job every year.

I did not bother to take photos of the salad or the cock-a-leekie soup (chicken and leek soup). But they were both delicious. Here is the main course. Peas, Mashed Neeps and Tatties, and scrumptious roast beast!


This main course was followed immediately by some fresh baked scones, and our final dessert was Cranachan, a very creamy dish with raspberries.


My wife was lucky enough to be seated next to someone who did not want his dessert, so he passed it along to her!


You will note the presence of raffle tickets on the table. The Friends of the Scottish Tartans Museum do a great job of having raffles for various small items, as well as multiple door prizes, and even a few auction items throughout the evening. It adds a bit of fun and helps the event flow along. We went home this year with a home baked raspberry crumble that I won at auction, as well as a tartan hair band for my daughter we won in the raffle, and - best yet - a free night at a local B&B we won as a door prize. Score!

Finally, the end of the evening as we all sang "Auld Lang Syne" and were piped out by Jean Hayes.

I did not capture on (digital) film the many toasts and speakers, nor any of the dancing (I was too busy dancing!), but I did want to say how proud I was of my wife, who gave the Toast to the Laddies (I offered the Toast to the Lassies), and to Glen's wife Catherine who gave the Immortal Memory speech. Well done, ladies!

Great photos, Catherine was only able to get a couple of shots. Glad it was a success, hopefully I will be there next year. Joannie`s shawl looks wonderful, and I also really like the New House Highland tartan.

I am a little disappointed to see Haggis reduced to an appetiser though - it should be the main course! I have seen that in Scotland too, however.

But unless Burns wrote a poem about beef I, for one, cannot see how it fits in to a Burns celebration, delicious as it is.

I agree!!! Haggis should always be the centerpiece of a proper Burns Night. Wonderful photos though, thanks for sharing.

The pictures were great. I attended a Burns Dinner on Saturday night and the haggis was an appetizer also. Since it was held at a conference center, the main dish had to be something from their menu. Your haggis looks to be in slices. Most of the haggis I have been served has been crumbly.

looks like a great time, i just attended my very first burns dinner, and from what i can tell they all seem to be fairly similar, with the speeches and singing and such. i have a few photos posted here in this thread.
