At our meet up: M C, Mark Ellis, Sir William

I would later find Brian Boru, clearly identified by his dandelion!

Orvis would be found at the re-enactors tent.

Thanks! I sat next to this young lady while eating lunch at the hospitality tent. I didn't know who she was until now.

Wonderful hose, made from cloth on the bias in the old manner.

Kilt worn a bit on the short side, which was quite popular back then.

Kilt with a rather smaller sett-size which is also period correct.

Hose, kilt, and waistcoat of different tartans, also the 18th century style.

And he's taken the trouble to get chalice droned pipes, which I appreciate. It stands out like a sore thumb when reenactors spend huge amounts of time and money getting every tiny aspect of their dress exactly period correct, but then play a modern instrument!

Unfortunately, I can't see the individual you are referring to (computer doesn't allow images) but since its one of Mael's photographs it sounds like its Peter Walker, the Appin Regiment resident musician.

Peter plays a number of 18th century tunes on 18th century instruments (some are originals). He is very knowledgeable about the music and instruments and how they have evolved to our modern day tunes and instruments.

As for his attire, everyone in the Appin Regiment tries to do the same, though it sometimes takes a bit of time to get it all together. We are always asked what clan tartans we are wearing and why they do or don't match. I once had a tartan spotter spend several minutes trying to figure out what tartan I was wearing. He was relieved to discover it was a non-descript tartan which I selected for exactly that reason.
