| | | Ready for the Ball
Hi Everyone
Well I've been trying to win a Prince charlie jacket on E-Bay now for a while but they were all snapped up by other kilt wearers who had more funds than me ( never mind ) . But after reading Alans posting on the Eton Jacket ( Thanks Alan ) and how to turn it into a Prince Charlie jacket I bought one online and added the Scottish buttons to it yesterday. It looks quite good from the outside which is the main thing and now I have a SWK belt, Made in Pakistan grey rabbit fur sporran etc and my Celtic Croft Gunn kit to go with it so now I'm ready for the Ball. The ball that I'm going to attend is held in New Zealand in a town called Oamaru which is famous for it's Victorian buildings and every Nov they have a week long Victorian festival. The highlight is the Victorian Ball which is held in the historic Scottish Hall & quite a few arrive in horse drawn carriage's and everyone wears their finest . Of course there is also a fantastic full Victorian supper , good quality ale from the barrel, lots of single malt and the addressing of the haggis. Quite a few of my good friends attend this event so if I get the chance I'll post some photos of the event. So pictured below is my version of the Eton - Prince Charlie Jacket if you click on the phto you'll get the larger version

Don't worry I do have some nice black dress brouges but as I live in Japan we don't wear shoes inside and this photo was taken late in the evening , next time it will be an outdoor shot with brouges

Konnichiwa!
Looking good kiwi! But aren't the wings of the shirt supposed to go under the bow tie?

Andy | Hi MacTavishofJapan
No as I'm wearing a wing collar shirt and the wings remain on the top and also in Victorian times a lot of men wore wing collar shirts and the ties they wore also were of this style etc. I just checked the photos on the kilt store website and it's the same as mine so I guess that's the correct way. Where in Japan do you live as I live in Niigata City ?
It's a lot of fun wearing a kilt in Japan so do it as often as you can but watch out as you will get some weird looks

I live in Sanyoonoda (near Ube), Yamaguchi prefecture. Being a big lad in a relatively small and quiet (very few gaijin) city I get many weird looks anyway!!! I'm looking forward to shocking a few of the locals. The folks I have told about the kilt are all for it! And excited to see it. Should be fun.
Guess I was wrong about the shirt, huh? You learn a new thing every day.

EXCELLENT! It looks great! I never thought about being kilted/no shoes whie in Japan, but *duh*! Of course!
Snag a three-button black vest when you can, even one of those "half vests" inexpensive with just a strap and some elastic around your back and that'll be the final little touch.
The jacket looks great, ditto for the kilt and sporran. Ahhh, a budget minded guy, after my own heart!.
