Royal Air Force kilt

My new Royal Air Force tartan kilt arrived yesterday from Strathmore Woollen Co. Ltd. so I wore it for the first time today, seen here in the museum, with official museum sweatshirt.

Close up of the pleats

Beside the flat packed self assembly display cabinet which I assembled and in which I have displayed my late father's RAF artefacts and photos from his service from 1940 to 1946.

My polo top with Royal Air Force crest came from the RAF museum's shop at Cosford. The hose are from North of St. Andrews and are sold as "Air Force Blue". I think they go well with this top but I wonder whether Lovatt Blue hose would be a better match for this kilt if I was wearing a non blue top - what do you think?

Despite the awful weather I just had to go out to the apron to get a couple of photos in natural light as opposed to indoor electric lighting and flash.

American forumites may know this aircraft better as a Martin B-57.

That tartan is really a nice shade of blue. IMHO dark top and dark hose make it stand out nicely.
Good for you in the display of your father's memorabilia. My father was a Bomber Crew Chief in the American Army Air Force. He would have been in Europe if the war had lasted just a little longer, but thankfully he didn't have to go over.
Thanks for the pics.

Very sharp....I am soooo drooling for mine now.
Plan to wear it witht he replica RAF Battlejacket I got from What Price Glory. I added my father's wings, Sgt. stripes, and U.S.A shoulder flashes.
I have my father's RAF pin, like what you have on the top shelf, only it also has 1942 below the RAF letters. Much too precious to wear as a kilt pin though.
Do you know if anyone makes an RAF kiltpin?
Thanks,

A VERY lovely tartan. I'm jonesing FOR YOU, Ron! You both (Ron, Cessna) have a lot to be proud of. It's great to see honoring in this fashion.

Great looking kilt Alex--You fit in nicely there-I think that lovet blue hose would look great with that kilt also, although the darker ones give a nice contrast to the kilt

Congrats Cessna! It's a fine looking kilt and tartan and one that obviously has special meaning. Wear it with pride!
