    Royal Air Force Tartan Pic

Its not a kilt yet. But O'Neille happened to be visiting Kathy Lare in Albuquerque right after the RAF tartan fabric arrived and he was kind enough to snap this pic of Kathy and the tartan. That's 16 oz Strome....drool...drool....jones....jones...

In case you didn't follow the thread on the tartan forum, its in honor of my late father's service as a Flying Sergeant in the Royal Air Force in 1942. He was a Montana boy who had learned to fly and joined the RAF. He flew Hurricanes and Spitfires in combat and was on the Dieppe Raid. When the Army Air Corps got organized in England he transferred to the newly formed 346th Fighter Squadron of the 350th Fighter Group flying P-39s. First flew from England to North Africa in one long seven hour hop. Then was in extensive combat in North Africa when we were losing to the Afrika Corps. He was shot down at Kasserine Pass. making a second, but necessary, pass at a convoy. Fortunately, was rescued by the 1st Armored as every German soldier in Africa descended upon him...or I'd not be here to type this.

Thanks O'Neille for thinking of me.

Cool! I know right where that picture was taken. I have stood on the very spot that Kathy is standing.

And Ron, that's a very cool story. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the story, Ron. I'd been following the thread about the RAF tartan and your father being a flying Sgt. But, the details really express why you want to honor his service. You should be very proud. I can't wait to see the pictures of the kilt sewn up. And, I hope to be standing in that spot at some point, too.

Unfortunately I'm unable to view your pic of the tartan, Ron.
Looking forward to seeing pics of the completed kilt.
