Rumney Folk Festival, Cardiff. In Pictures.

Hey all. Sorry it's taken a while to get these up but I've been away for a week or so.

The festival was on Saturday 05 Sep and my wife and I travelled down on Friday afternoon. We set off from Lancashire for the three and a half hour drive which took us closer to five hours. Traffic was terrible.

We were booked into a guest house in Rumney and we met up with Chas there as he had arrived before us. Doublewood Dave had not yet arrived. It was to take him 8 hours to get the 270 miles from North Yorkshire. As I said, typical Friday traffic.

After freshening up at the B&B we took a wander down the road to meet up with Derek and Elaine and Hamish. After introductions and a quick natter in the church hall, Derek invited us back to their beautiful house for a beer before stepping out on the town.

From Derek's we went onto a Pub and eventually after Doublewood arrived onto a curry house for a meal. A couple of people came across to ask if we were Scots down for the Rugby (Edinburgh beat Cardiff 22-21 that day) and they seemed genuinely disappointed when they realised there wasn't a single scottish accent in our group.

The next day we breakfasted at the B&B with Chas and Dave then wandered down to the Church Hall to begin the day. Derek and Elaine were madly busy setting up gear and running sound checks but other than a bit of light lifting there wasn't much we could do to help.

Hamish with my lovely Turkish Wife who is wearing an Australian National Tartan kilt. There's another thread on XMTS about the kilt and it's significance.

Outside the venue there were various arts and craft stalls, one of which was run by a couple of guys who have set up a micro-brewery locally. Needless to say, didn't take long for me an' doublewood to sniff it out. Even came home with a case each.

There were also hot-dogs and burgers available. Didn't take long to find those either.

A closer look at the Aussie Nat. I'm gutted it doesn't fit me.

Throughout the day there were some fantastic acts playing. We have loads of photo's of them all but I'll just post some of the performers if you don't mind.

This is a guy called Davy Cartwright. A really nice, unassuming bloke. He played beautifully and we had a long chat later on.

This is a guy called Quince who plays a harp-guitar. Never seen one before and he was nice enough to take the time to show it to us in detail. Nice bloke.

Enjoying the show... There were cameras everywhere.

Throughout the day there were participation workshops and the Sedai Sedai Drummers did a practical demonstration of african drumming techniques. Awesome!

Adrian Hughes did a slide guitar workshop which was incredible. He is a fantastic musician.

Even got to have a go myself when Derek was kind enough to lend me his acoustic Bass. Unfortunately I only managed to prove I am an awful bassist.

Adrian also performed on the main stage and blew everyone away. A huge talent.

The Sedai Sedai Drummers also took to the main stage. Very impressive.

Thanks again to Derek and Elaine and all their friends for looking after us, despite having lots of other stuff to do. A super day. Just sorry we couldn't stay a bit longer and get on one of Derek's country walks. It was great to meet Hamish for the first time as well.

So Trefor. As you can see, you didn't miss much. Hope you're better now mate.
