    Scotland trip Aug 2011

Just thought I would post a few pictures from my recent trip to Scotland. Weather was unpredictable so didnt take as many pictures as I would have liked. This was also my first public outing kilted so please be gentle. Incidently the dog is a Newfoundland which was a rarity in Scotland apparently. If I had a pound for every time a tourist wanted to take his picture I would have enough cash for a Taylor tartan tank by now. Talk about a missed opportunity. Had a fantastic time though and all the Scots we met were incredibly friendly, they didnt even seem to mind a non Scot wearing their National Dress. Just cant wait to go back now.

1st pic is me and my dog Alfie at Eilean Donan Castle.

Now a better one without me in it.

Looking back towards Tyndrum on the road to Glen Coe

    Loch Shiel at Dusk

Myself and Alf at Fort Augustus

The Jacobite Memorial at Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel

And finally for now the Castle in the Loch on the road between Ballachullish and Oban

Glen Roy and the Parallel Roads (just visible in the centre) caused by retreating glacial action

Thank you Scotland and the Scots for a truly memorable time. Your friendliness and hospitality are second to none and your landscape truly inspiring.

Beautiful photos of grand countryside. Thank you for sharing! I am wanting to go now more than ever! I've only been to Edinburgh, which was fantastic. But I am especially fond of, and want to visit Glasgow, Central Lowlands and Western Scotland as that's where my ancestors were from. The countryside is calling me:-)

    Lovely!

Thanks for the wonderful pics Grizzly. They certainly increase my motivation to visit there. Have you been colluding with my girlfriend?. It seems a day doesn't go by that she doesn't bring it up

And yes Jock, it is a fine looking patch indeed !

    Regards,

    Brooke

You look comfortable and well turned out for the weather... no need to be gentle, you look fine. Some may poo-poo the jacobean shirt as a "Johnny-come-lately" in the realm of highland dress but frankly, they look comfortable without being shabby... just like the kilt itself.

And that dog is absolutely beautiful. When I was a boy my brother and I would thumb through my grandmother's AKC breed standards book... the Newfie was my dream dog.

    Thanks for the fantastic pictures.

Fantastic pics, you look good sporting the kilt out for your first time.

nice pics mate, the Scots didnt seem to mind me a non Scot wearing a kilt there as well. I am sure the first pic of Eilean Donan Castle was used in the film "Highlander".
