We were invited to my cousins wedding near Edinburgh and decided we'd go. Its a very long and expensive trip from Australia so we decided to spend some time in Scotland to make it worthwhile, so we both took 7 weeks leave. We spent three days in London to recover from the flight before taking the train to Edinburgh and meeting the family (an uncle and aunt, 5 cousins, their spouses and kids one of whom I'd met before 25 years ago when she was 10YO). That was great. After 10 days around Edinburgh for the wedding and meeting people, we had a hire car for 30 days to go touring. As usual we left the plans pretty loose, nowhere near peak period so we could afford to for accomodation etc.

    BROCH OF GURNESS, ORKNEY

We got to Mull, Iona, north through Fort William and the great Glen, John O'Groats, Orkney mainland, the western highlands, got to see some of the Scottish Six Days Trial nr Fort William, Cairngorms, Stirling, some of Hadrians Wall. And more before heading back to see the family for a few days before leaving.

Been back at work for a week now and it already seems so long ago.

Great photos, thanks for them, It sounds like a good trip, but even with all the time there it sounds like it was too short for you.

Thanks, I have to admit that we prefer country side, scenery and the historic sites. So we did lots of walking.

You won't see many pictures in cities because I don't particularly enjoy them esp if I have to navigate, then if it's got more than 10 streets, I'll avoid it anyway I can. I enjoyed walking around Edinburgh though, loved Princes St Gardens, but that might be because it brings memories of pics of my mum and dad before they migrated to OZ. The tulips were certainly in bloom.

    Found this one amusing:
