Sherwood Forest Renassiance Faire

Last Saturday, (2/27) I attended the opening day of Sherwood Forest Faire, a new Robin Hood era faire in Bastrop County near Austin Texas. And as usual I took a whole lot of photos. Keep in mind I got most of these in the first hour or two after the gate opened, there were only a two hundred or so patrons scattered about the 25 acre site, so it seems like there are not many people. But there were about 2500 folks on site by mid-day.

an hour before opening, about 20 folks milling around..

But soon a lot more show up! Including our Queen Bonnie, who took credit for the fantastic weather!

the watch turned out for crowd control..

And the Sheriff of Nottingham told us we were an illegal assembly! He seemed offended by the cat-calls and rude gestures !

But Robin Hood and this men got the Sheriff sorted!

Welcome to Sherwood Forest !

In to the faire I go!

Sherwood Forest Faire II

Some of the buildings on site;

Henna Shop

Marion's Chapel

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Pub, very impressive!

The Seven Sisters stone circle. The stones for this were brought over from Europe.

A standing stone and leaning fat boy!

The Jerusalem barmaids draw me that all important 'first stout of the day'! I was one of their first customers!

I take in my first show of the day; my favorite, Circa Paleo.

Jenny's fiddle gets the crowd dancing, even the woods spirits can't resist!

Sherwood Forest Faire III

One more shot of Jenny from Circa Paleo, cause she's so pretty!

Here's X-Marker RadioKen by his booth, I told him I'd put his tights on the interweb!

One of my clansmen, Lady Elizabeth.

Warning for purists; Avert your eyes! This may not be historically accurate garb!

When in Sherwood, watch your overhead!

Cassidy finds a swing, she was up there getting photographed for hours! not easy being the clan supermodel!

Abby Green, one of my favorite faire performers.

Only a few more , I promise!

Sherwood Forest Faire IV

My friend Blue takes a load off by her booth.

I see some friends coming from the pub.

I go to a wedding!

My clansmen Lishy and Dennis have the first wedding at the faire in Maid Marion's Chapel.

Signs to popular 12th century tourist spots...

Where the naughty people go...

My last shot of the day, heading out to the car. The shadows are getting long, and the crowd, that totaled over 3000 for the whole day, is thinning out. I had a really nice time, and I think the new faire is gonna be a great success!

Wow, you post great pics of all of these renassiance events. I'd love to go to one, just to see what it's like!
