    Show Off Time

I'm finally learning how to take pictures. I bought an idiot-proof camera (1-button auto mode) and am still learning how to use it.

Below are two pictures of my son and daughter-in-law taken before a pre-Christmas office party. They are making me a grandfather in May, ... darned kids!

The sporran and hose are from the Scottish Tartans Museum, the ghillies from USA Kilts, and the PC from Scotweb.

The plaid sports one of Kathy Lare's plaid extensions.

My wife fashioned the shawl using my plaid and a Douglas Crest kilt pin (also from the STM).

The tartan is the Blaylock Annandale designed by Dr. Phil Smith and woven by Dalgliesh in their heavyweight cloth. The kilt, plaids, and flashes were sewn by Kathy Lare.

The next picture is of me and my son earlier this year before his birthday party. Hint: I am the old fat guy with the crooked sporran and the really cool hose.

Our tartans are the Blaylock (Dalgleish) and the Gordon Weathered (Lochcarron).

Congrats on the upcoming addition to the family! You all look great!

I do have one question -- you write:
The plaid sports one of Kathy Lare's plaid extensions.
I am not familiar with what a "plaid extension" is (but I keep thinking of hair extensions for some reason). Do you mind explaining a bit?

Not at all, though Kathy could explain it much better. It is a piece of tartan that is fringed and folded and then either pinned or sewn to the corner of the plaid that would ordinarily pass under the epaulette. It is sewn if the wearer wants to don it every time, pinned if it will be taken on and off from occasion to occasion. When the plaid is donned, the plaid brooch is pinned through the extension rather than the corner of the plaid.

It ornaments the plaid rather nicely and extends its length a bit. A picture of an unattached extension appears below. You can see my son's on his plaid (directly under the brooch).

I like them a lot, so I have one on each of my Kathy-Lare plaids. Hope that helps.
