A photo of my Great Uncle Danny Brown in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in WW1. The men in the family were coal miners and moved back and forth between Pennsylvania and Scotland with relative ease. My Grandmother, Helen Brown Spence was a maid for a private family in Glasgow during the war.
After the war he emigrated to the USA and settled in Detroit , Michigan.
Si Deus, quis contra? Spence and Brown on my mother's side, Johnston from my father, proud member of Clan MacDuff!

HM The Queen, accompanied by the kilted Captain Alwyne Farquharson of Invercauld in, at a guess, the 1960's.

From this month's front cover of "The Field"

First, King Edward in tweed and flat cap

Next a piper, photo taken in Edinburgh

Next are some strange publicity photos from the 1980s featuring regimental pipers, the Gordon Highlanders and The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

Carried away by the madness of fight, the English knight charged straight into the Spanish array. Here and there tossed the white plume of the English helmet, rising and falling like the foam upon a wave, until at last it had sunk from view, and another brave man had turned from war to peace.

Many thanks, Jock, for posting that cover of The Field. It was most appropriate for them to use that picture of Her Majesty.
Since the picture is in black and white, I was wondering whether anyone could confirm that the tartan is Balmoral?
    Regards,
    Mike

The sett and overall "lightness" of the tartan surely looks like the Balmoral tartan, Mike.

À propos the odd pictures of the pipers, by coincidence I came across a picture this afternoon of a nude piper. I won’t post it on X Marks, since that would be inappropriate, but I could forward it to anyone who is interested.
    Regards,
    Mike

Richard, those two of the pipers making the kids cry are great. Having a piper brother, I can relate! (Sorry, Thom, but you know what I mean.)
