Standing Stones on the Tassie Isles

On a recent drive in the Tasmanian Highlands we came across a sign indicating some "stones" off a side road in the middle of nowhere.

We parked the car, walked up a short dirt track and came across a ring of stones that I've never seen, hidden in the forest.

Each stone had a bronze sculpture afixed. It was all a donation from a visiting Scandinavian artist, or so it seems.

Here is just one of the stones:

    Looking good.
I assume the bronze sculpture and not the stone was the gift of the visiting artist.
Wonder what's the history of the stone?

well the only men there was me and I don't have any hirs on my legs
Seriously, I have a love affair with them too, especially after my trip to Orkney.
I'm planning a couple of large standing stones for the entrance to our property out of sandstone.

cessna152towser, not sure of the history, all I know is that it is called the Steppes Stone sculptures, which celebrates local Highland life.
I'll try to find out more.

    cheers Glenn!!
