Valentine's Dance

Hello Rabble! Wife and I went to a BSA fundraising event last night with my dad and stepmom, aunt and uncle, and several other acquaintances from my scouting days. Here's some pics of the evening.

My father and I at the beginning of the evening.

Wife and I.

Some after-dinner coffee.

By the way, I made the kilt jacket from a normal 2-button suit separate jacket that I bought on the sale rack with a matching 5 button vest. Conversion took 4.5 hours...probably could have done it faster, but it was completely hand sewn during the reassembly process, as I didn't want to top-stitch it using a sewing machine. It is a center vent jacket that I considered converting to a side-vented jacket, but it was just more trouble than I felt like getting into...so I kept it a center vent. Happy with the finished product all the same. I replaced the buttons as well with some burled-cherry looking buttons that I feel look really nice against the grey.

Looks like a good evening. Nice work on the jacket. Not something I could do.

Great pix! What a wonderful family. You did a great job on the jacket. Beautiful tartan. Tell us about it and the sporran.

Thx All! I even managed to get the wife out on the dance floor!! Let's just say that dancing is not her strong suit!

Mael...The tartan is Young Modern. My mother in law is a Young (coincidence really, not the reason I bought the tartan though, as she's Italian and not Scottish that I'm aware of). The colors of the young tartan, excepting the light blue stripe, are my Army Branch colors (green, purple, and yellow)...since Matt had it on his specials page and in my size, I snatched it up. I think it's a very pretty tartan. I have some BW fabric waiting on me to make a kilt for a friend and myself and have plans to get some US Army Tartan and perhaps the Afghanistan Campaign Tartan offered by J. Higgins.

The sporran was a gift from my wife for Christmas and made by Josh at Skye Highland Outfitters. See the ugly guy in the middle top of this page...it says it all:

Didn't Josh make that out of a goat, native to Afghanistan, in recognition of your tours of duty, over there?
