Visiting Anjou

For our holidays, we went on a pilgrimage in Anjou (France) were many of my ancestors lived a long time ago.

I am here standing before the gate of La Chartreuse du Liget.

An ancestor of mine built this monastery to atone for an important sin.

Simple minds. It was indeed a very long time ago.

We had a very young guide for the occasion. It was cute to hear the story of my forefathers narrated in such a fresh and naïve way.

This stone barrel has a nice story . It was built to shelter the soul of a monk that appreciated wine a little too much.

The waters of this original fountain are supposed to be the tears of this poor soul flowing from it continuously.

The nearby town of Montrésor and it's castle.

This time, my kilt-making wife Lady Chrystel herself was my lovely guide !

I suggest we follow her...

It was nice to rest for a while.

A bit of exercise after all that culture and History...

Back to her elder sister's place in Berry, little Evangeline enjoyed decorating cupcakes.

Wonderful pictures...thanks for sharing. I'm curious as to when the monastary was built. Being from a part of the world where something from 100 years ago is considered old, I can only imagine what it must be like to be immersed in history like that, particularly something built by one of your ancestors. It must have been quite some 'indiscretion' to warrant an edifice like that!

The monastery was founded in 1178 but they kept addinng new buildings to the first ones until the French Revolution (1789).

As my childhood was immersed in d'Anjou pears, I was expecting a pear tree in bloom in at least one photo. I guess I'll have to send you a photo of them.
