Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle

A visit to Stirling, to the Wallace Monument in the morning and Stirling Castle in the afternoon.

with Hayat and a youngster whom she is currently looking after.

The attempt to take a group photo including my kilt was not too successful, the little pocket camera is too light and vibrates when the shutter goes off.

I wasn't the only person wearing a kilt at the Wallace Monument.

The Ochil Hills, from the Wallace Monument

After climbing the 246 steps inside the Wallace Monument we can see Stirling Castle which will feature in part two shortly.

The approach ramp to Stirling Castle.

Statue of King Robert the Bruce on the Stirling Castle esplanade.

Cannons and Picnic Tables, viewed from the Castle Foreworks.

A general view of the Castle from the Foreworks.

The Castle was busy with visitors because Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had officially re-opened the refurbished Palace of King James only a week previously.

A grand fireplace in the Palace.

The Queen's Chamber

In the Inner Hall

Concluding with the view from the Ladies' Balcony of the Palace, where the Queen of Scotland and her entourage would admire the view to the west. I wonder what the mediaeval Queen would have made of Raploch Housing Estate on the right and of the modern motor cars.
That's all folks.

I am not trying to be a smart a@@~ here, but William Wallace wearing a crown? I rather think that is Robert the Bruce looking towards the distant Wallace monument. Great pictures nontheless.

Did you get to see "The Sword" at the Wallace monument?
I have heard it "Travels" and often is not there.

Brilliant pictures, I have not been up to the castle for 2 years, the last time in 2009 when the Scottish Youth Pipe Band and Scottish Youth Theatre combined for a musical and dance version of Tam O' Shanter.
The castle grounds and courtyard look good, I will have to visit soon

Great photos. That stirs up the memories of my brothers and my trip there. I am going to dig up the album when I get home.
Thanks again.
