    Wet weather gear revisted

A while back we had a chat about waterproof gear to cover the kilt when hiking.

Yesterday I took my family into the Tasmanian Highlands for a hike, wet weather was expected so I called into an outdoor store and blew 1.5K on a Gortex coat.
They claim to be the "bee's knees" in keeping the rain out, and this coat was quite long so that it covers most of my kilt.

The colour is "Satire" blue and no, I've not put on weight, it's the clothing I have underneath, it was a cold day.

    I use a Barbour 3/4 length .

The only problem is it's quite heavy. It also has an optinal snap in liner in a fleece like material.

Your Goretex is much lighter. Also no doubt easier to pack down. But noisy.Although they are getting softer these days. There are many pro's and cons to Goretex. But look after it and, it will last.

    Nice pic as usual Graham.
