Yet Another Kilte Hamebrew

It's been too long since I brewed, so I went and got supplies this long holiday weekend to brew Amnesia Old Ale. I haven't tried this recipe before, but I'm sure it will be great. I started with 10 lbs malt extract, one lb. of crystal malt and a quarter lb. of special roast malt. It also calls for 5 oz. of Kent Goldings hops. And, yes, I'm in the garage. Too many boilovers on the stove and Pamela says it stinks up the house - ah, the sweet smell!

The first shot is my brew kettle. It's a beer keg cut in half, with handles and a tap welded on. It lets me do a full 5 gallon boil. I also use whole hops in a mesh bag.

Relax, don't worry and have a homebrew........ (Actually, it's a Jubilale by Deschutes Brewery, in Bend, Oregon, a perfect example of a spiced holiday ale)

Immersion wort chiller cools the 5 gallons down to 80 F in 15 minutes.

Thanks for sharing these pics. Isn't there a risk of the lightly coloured kilt becoming stained in the event of spillage in the brewery?

It's a UK Original that I use for yard work and home improvement. I haven't stained or torn it yet - knock on wood.

Did some HB'ing myself on Turkey day. Didn't get many pictures though. This will be my first stout. Yeast were having a party for a few days, but have calmed down a bit. Now the wait....

Looks great! I've always wanted to get into making homebrew. I've done a couple kits in the past, and they turned out ok, but I'd love to try making it from scratch. Any ideas on good information sources for homebrewing?

Looking good Mowgli! And my wife has complained about the boilovers in the past, I just got a bigger pot to reduce the chances. I think the current one is about 3.5 gallons.
