    1st Outing

Today I left the house kilted. However, not as brave as it might sound as I spent most of the time in the car.
I was wondering what reaction I would get from the person at the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru. When I got up to the window, no reaction. Either the woman didn't notice or didn't care. I drive a Saturn SC-2 (low to the ground, "sports car"); so she could see in the car. I parked to have my muffin and coffee. I did get out of the car to get rid of some trash. So people in the parking lot could see me.
I am still trying to figure out how sit down (or get out of my car) and remain a gentleman. Everytime I sit down, the back of the kilt bunches up behind me. Any suggestions?

Use a free hand to sweep the back of the kilt under your butt. You'll probably have to lean over and smooth out the other side under you too.

After a few times it's as natural as breathing.

I also was very nervous at first but confidence builds with each outing. There are still a few places I haven't ventured yet, but I'm getting there. I think the biggest surprise (pleasantly) is that to most people it's very much a non-event.

Well done Wil - keep us posted on future outings (you'll get all the support you want here).

There are many ways to get from A to B. It's not the destination, it's the journey that counts.

One can also use the very gentlemanly method of reaching between your legs and pulling the offending pleats in submission. I find I have to do this with my traditional.

Carry on as if you knew what you were doing, and you were in you're right state of mind.

Nice going! Keep it up Wil it will only get better Trust us.. If you only knew the history of all of us, ,, most of started right where you did. If you have a wife or Girl friend or any female friend that you think will be supportive. Take her somewhere while you are kilted. For me I admit I am much braver when I am with my wife in those places where a kilt might be seen more out of place. It's fine to start in venues you are comfortable with. Or be like me and Jump into one that your not.. It will make the rest easy.

See if there are any ren-fares near you and go to that. They are still going on in Ohio until the end of October.

Otherwise.. Go Camping some weekend soon before it gets too cold. Better yet go to the mountains and get around other tourists. Places like that are easier for me perhaps for you to.

We are here for you pal stay strong.. wear it with pride and .... GET OUT THERE!

As far sitting Rigged has it right I take my right hand and do a sweep under the keester. After I get in I lift up and do it with both hands to make sure the pleats don't get bunched .. Hint Watch the ladies sit down if you can find any wearing skirts around you..

    Wil,

I understand the initial wanting to go kilted but not really be seen syndrome. What I have experienced is 99.9% positive. Once you get past that hesitation it is really easy. Just like the hand swoop, it comes naturally quickly!

Glad that you are venturing out, keep it up!

Wil, I wish that you were closer to Philadelphia! I have a LOAD of places to take you in the kilt, and you'll fit right in! In no time, you'll have to qualms about going anywhere in it! 8)

Wear it to a Black Bears Hockey Game, and I'll bet that you would be the hit of the night!

kilts and cars are not made for each other ;)
we need one free hand holding the back of the kilt, i m used to hold with the other, right, hand the driving wheel and go such in.
    practice above theory...;)

    Next Outing

Thanks for all the advice. My next outing is tomorrow night. Friends are having a Halloween Party. I've told them I would be wearing a kilt. But, I didn't say my costume is a kilt. So, the hosts know about it. But it may be a surprise to the other guests.

If I'm asked about what is underneath, I'm going to reply "Good girls don't ask...."
