2 kilts, several comments and a very odd question

Two handsome men, in kilts, a sight not often seen in the streets of Grenoble.

After spending some time ordering kilts and pins over the net with a friend, we took the tram to town for a pint.

First question, in the tram: Are you two theatre actors?
    "No, why?" (innocently).
The questioner said the klits looked nice, but was unable to conceal his mirth.

In the street various people asked if there was a festival or something.

And of course, a man came up and said "May I ask you a question?" (Here comes the inevitable, I thought)
"You can ask, but you may not get a reply" I said.
The man went on "What is the name of the big Italian island near Corsica?"
    !!!
    I was struck dumb.

Perhaps the French were too worried about the election results to concentrate on anything else.

The answer of, course, is Sardinia.

But why such a question was asked is still a mystery!

Martin, I saw this and thought of you: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6631253.stm

Note: presented ONLY because of the Frenchman in a kilt, and not as endorsement of any form of politics.

I think the kilted Frenchman was confused.
The Scottish vote was for freedom FROM English rule.

The French vote was for freedom TO undertake new actitivities.

    (semantics, not politics)

As far as I can remember, his tartan is one of the recently created Breton tartans.

good story Martin and more proof that you never know what will happen when you are in a kilt.
"If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say this or that even, it never happened—that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death."

Oh, that's a great story. I need to watch out for that kind of question. Perhaps using your lead of "might not reply" creates all kinds of opportunities. Cheers!
    Peace to you,

Some interesting reactions, there, great story, Martin.
I wonder where the link between the kilt and Sardinia came from.
