Thumbs up 50 yard Kilts preview showing - Broke every rule in the book

At the risk of banishment, I doned the "50 yard" Kilt last night.

We had a number of parents over for beer and wine last night after a student / faculty talent show at our High School to raise funds for our kids trip to Edinburoughs "Fringe Festival" next August.

The evening was such a success that we as proud parents decided to celebrate the occasion. ( Like an Irishman needs an excuse to drink )

Durring the course of the evening we talked about further fundraising and the upcomming performance of "Guys and Dolls" that our kids are all involved in.

A few of the parents knew that I had made a kilt ( the now infamous "50 Yarder ) for these fundraising activities durring the shows run, less than a week away. Before I knew what hit me there was a drunken chant from the rabble to "Put On YE KILT" PUT ON YE KILT"

So I did. including the PC jacket, vest and bow tie I borrowed from a friend.

AND a pseudo Pipers /fly plaid/ 'ish thing that I wore draped over one sholder. I had a kilt belt WITH the PC and a full face sporran.

After reading so many comments from this rabble about proper attire, what goes with what, and what constitutes a kilting faux pas... I was actually glad none of you guys could see what I looked like at that moment...

but the crowd at My house had no idea about these fashion no-no's.

They went CRAZY and absolutely loved the look. All have insisted that I dress the part on any number of fundraising occasions exactly like last night. Honestly, I personally liked the look as well.

Someone did snap off a few pics with their Didgital Camera and I'm waiting for them to send them to me. When they arrive I'll post one or two.

There is also a pic of my families "War Shillelagh", a true war shillelagh from Ireland passed down from 5 traceable generations through my geneology studies of my family. I'm sure that it goes back much farther than that.

I hope to get some close ups and post specifically about it on the
"Tartans and Heraldry" section. Some of the Irish here may get a kick out of it. I believe that it is Blackthorn. It looks more like a baseball bat than that of a cane. The succession of the Shillelagh in my generation has already been decided, and even though I would have been in line to have it as the oldest son, I was passed over by my dad's last wishes in favor of my younger brother who has a son to pass it down to. We take this very seriousely.

Are there any pics of the "50 yarder" on here? I'm quite intrigued and am wondering how heavy that bad boy must be.

I would like to see pics of the 50 yarder myself.

But I'm actually more interested in seeing pics of the shillelagh.

The Shillelagh has intricate carving and the only way that you will be able to really apreciate it would be for me to make a "rubbing of sections of it. Rather than use my camera phone, I'll wait to get my daughters digital camera. This is something to be seen to really appreciate.

Poor pics... I actually tried to scan the Shillelagh on our cheap flatbed scanner. Then I had to do some editing in brightness and contrast to pull some of the details out. First pic is of the head of this club. It looks like a grenade for cripes sake.

The second pic is along the shaft about mid length to try and get a better pic of the carving. I need to try a digital camera and post some better pics, but this will do for now.
