You'll find you get that often. People (at least in America) who know nothing about Celtic culture often associate Kilt = Irish in their head (even though we know it's Scottish). it's definitely NOT a 'local' thing, though it may be a 'counrty' thing.

Yep, hear it all the time. At least it's a comment that often leads to good conversation.

Happens to me all the time. I just figured it was because the "Celtic" fests around here are sponsored by Irish organizations. For the general public attending it is the only time they see kilts with most of them being Utilikilts.

I get asked that a lot. Every once in a while someone will say "Nice kilt, are you English?"

I was asked that by a guy in a Subway restaurant once. I was wearing my PV Fraser Hunting. In a Hollywood Irish accent he asked "Might you be Irish?" of course I said "no the kilt was for my Scots ancestry", but I noticed he had a Masonic ring on and mentioned the Scots significance to that organization. All in all a good exchange for a small Georgia town.

Might you be Norwegian?
Actually got asked this once. I grieve for the state of geographic knowledge in my country. Of course, I do look like Hagar the Horrible.
