Baghdad Flop

Well, for the first time in my life, I can say, I have given up. It just wasnt ment to be. Today, when I came back from Camp Taji, the sign on my door was turned from "stay out" red to "clean it up" green. which means the maids have once again ransacked my room and tried to steel phone cards or money or candy or what ever. I think I am going to leave an inflatable girlfriend on my bed with compromising toys and photos all around to offend their prudent sensibilities. Ohh, wait, I was talking about kilts....anyway, on the chair was my kilt. It was not the plaid I wanted, but a stripe. Ok, no big, with the pleats sewn it didnt look to bad. One buckle was thigh length, so that doesnt work. The inner wrap is kept in place by a couple of, I dont know, those little buttons that keep my daughters barbi dolls cloths together, the little silver tabs. Well, she put the buttons on backwards, so in order to snap them together you have to twist the inside of the kilt. Don't try to picture it, just realize that it looks silly. The inside diameter of the kilt is no where close...to the size of a well fed man. I am sure that somewhere on the kilt it is the right measurement, but when it is around my waist...No. In all fairness, she did get the belt loops correct. This total endevor has cost me $60, and all I have are two throw towls.

I guess I should add some good news. Matt Newsome has designed us a wonderful, excellent, beautiful Operation Iraqi Freedom; PSD tartan. I am waiting for another 6 operators to get on board, but if I don't have them by 24 February, we will just do it with the 6 of us. In the "show us your photos" section, I will try and post some pictures tonight. Give it 30 minutes or so and I will have them up. Ummm, it is 2211 hours my time.

If you ever get down to An Numenia look up the instructor and AI guy there and ask to see his ACU Digital Freedom Kilt. Perfect fabric for the desert.

Sorry to hear about the mis-adventure. When you can I'd love to see some pics of the cloth at least. I'm curious about the weave and colors that are available in Iraq. The Iraqi Freedom tartan sounds awesome and I'm looking forward to that as well.

Well Jay,
I'm truly sorry that the kilts themselves were total failures, but this ordeal did provide a very entertaining couple of threads to follow! Take care over there my friend, and THANK YOU for all you are doing!!!

It sounds like you have inadvertantly created a new species of kilt. Who knows, perhaps the trend will catch on... but what to call it? "Iraqiflopikilt" is kinda catchy!
