An answer

I would suggest he check on the Internet and see what he likes, then he can ask questions of us. I never think of kilts and kiltmakers as having to be from any particular place—kilts are international.

I can see why he wants a local guy. He probably wants his kilts to be measured by a professional before he spend a few hundred dollars.

Al, Here is a link for your friend.

I have a friend with one of Robert MacDonald's kilts, and he is very happy with it.

Another source is David MacDonald: canadakilt.com I know nothing about him.

A little further afield is Sadie Livingston: scottishdesign.net Feisty older Scottish lady in Chemainus, on the Island.

Colin has a Canada Kilt. Canada kilts are made in Pakistan and tailor to buyers' measurements.

Colin had a Canada Kilt.

If this guy is looking for a kilt in the Innes tartan, than I would also suggest Robert at www.westcostkilts.com as he will be making my next kilt.

As Ronstew suggested www.scottishdesign.net is another possiblity (they are always at the loacl games). However the biggest two vendors to get a kilt made are Tartantown in Coquitlam (yeah Coquitlam!!) www.tartantown.com and House of MacLaren in Vancouver http://www.geocities.com/houseofmclaren/

Correct me if I am wrong, Colin, but Tartantown and House of MacLaren take measurements, and then send the order to Scotland for the actual kilt making.

Ron, you are correct. I believe they may do some work in store, but I would think they have the biggest number of sales (especially tartantown) in the Lower Mainland so that is why I included them.

My wife met a lady the other day out of the blue that is a kiltmaker in Maple Ridge. My wife said the work was very impressive. I will see if I can get more info.
