    Black tartan

A while back (I can't find it), there was discussion of a Black on Black tartan. I think it was a variant of the Skye tartan. I am trying to figure out if that is the same black tartan that Stillwater is using for their heavy weight or if they just have a generic plaid.

I think you're refering to the House of Edgar tartan called Dark Island.

That one, while nice, is not the one I have seen mentioned before. Anyone else?

I believe Hamish made mention of a black on black tartan from TFCK.

    clan.com lists several black-on-black tartans.

    Black Isle
    Dark Island
    Ben Dubh the black mount
    Black Shadow

I'm not sure, but it kinda looks like the Black Shadow listed on clan.com is the same as the Stillwater material. Whatcha think?

Not quite, Doc. I do have two plain kilts in black Barathea - one from TFCK and one from Geoffrey (Tailor) - I have jokingly referred to them as being in the "MacAbre" tartan!

However, I do have in my 'Kilt Kollection' a black on black kilt from The Highland Store, in London, in what they called "Hidden Tartan". There's a pic. of it on page 6 of my photo album.

I find it very hard to tell from the pictures, but I am assuming there is a visible tartan pattern to these kilts? In the pics they all seem to look just black.

    Yes, there is.

You may need to turn the brightness and contrast up on your monitor to see it. But, it is there.

FYI... This is the same 'tartan' as my SW Hvy Shadow Tartan kilt...
