The Bruce Hunting has arrived...

Following on from the "New Kilt Ordered" thread My new Bruce Hunting arrived this morning. The hue is a bit lighter than I expected, a bit more 'ancient' than 'modern' at least in comparison to my other Bruce Modern which is Lochcarron Strome. The sett size is also smaller (7 inches [18cm] as opposed to 10 inches [25.5cm]... that's stripe to stripe ). This Hunting kilt has 26 pleats, (it's seven and three quarter yards long) and made up out of an eight yard custom weave. It came with triple fringes and matching hose flashes.

The maker's label.

This is a special weave by D.C Dalgliesh and is in 15oz, K1 heavyweight fabric. It's made to measure and machine sewn. The fabric quality and workmanship is absolutely superb... and the fit is spot on. I'm not advertising this company but I am happy to report superb quality at a fantastic and to my mind, unbeatable price. Please do your own comparisons.

Thought it might be interesting to see how the pleat depth and colour differs from my Bruce Modern. It's not really fair to compare them as they are different setts, thread counts and different mills as well as different kilt makers but hey. They're my kilts so I can.

Disclaimer: I'm just teasing EB. It's a lovely tartan. I certainly prefer the hunting tartan to the modern colours.

Thanks for posting this! My Mom was Bruce, and I am thinking of getting Bruce tartan for my next kilt to honor her side of the family. Both Modern & Hunting are beautiful tartans. I'm going to keep a link to this post for consideration of my own Bruce kilt
