Busy night
Last night I decided to hit the campus parties kilted.
I have on my Beloit College hoodie, Gordon 16oz. (it was snowing last night), and GI combat boots. As I'm walking to commons, I receive a lot of compliments, as usual, but when I'm actually sitting in the dining hall eating dinner, my friends decide to start skewering me.
"So, you really don't wear anything underneith?"
"No, I really don't"
"How often do you clean it"
"I take it to the dry cleaners about once every 3 months"
"GROSS! It's all dirty"
"Not really, just because you're all filthy college freshmen [I'm a sophomore, for the record] doesn't mean that I am too. I shower everyday."
That shut them up. Later, after more flattering compliments, I go to the local highschool's play (I helped out on it). Everybody was asking me questions, being very polite, nothing really happened. As I was sitting there, I could hear these kids talking throughout the entire first act! During intermission, I approached them (there were about 3 of them, couldn't have been over 16 years old) and asked them not to talk during the show. They all kind of mumbled something, and I turned around to walk away. That's when I heard it. "Who the f*** wears a skirt?"
Oh, I exploded. "If you are making fun of my kilt, then you are dishonoring my family, and I will not stand to let ANYBODY insulting my family, heritage, or culture. Say one more thing and I will REMOVE YOU from this theater."
I've never seen anybody more petrified. Here's a visual: a 215 lb., 6'1" kilted, red-haired college rugger scowling at 3 sunken-chested 16-year-old high schoolers. A bit one-sided, but they started it.
Needless, to say, I enjoyed the rest of the play without the....additional commentary.
Later that night, I was sure to enjoy myself with good friends a few Fosters. More compliments were thrown my way from the lassies, and good times were had by all.
Best part of the night? On my walk back home, at about 3:00am, I hear somebody shout "Scotland gu brath!" from across the quad. I'm still beaming with pride.

Scotland gu brath is mixing languages a bit
That's like saying Wales am byth
I would have mentioned the improved air circulation which cuts down the need for cleaning frequency

Ahhhh yes a good night indeed. Now as far as those 16 year olds just remember that they are not to secure about who they are, treat them kindly.

I don't know.... In my experience, Arrogance seldom listens to Beneficence.

When I was a sixteen year old I couldn't stand that sort of sixteen year old....
They deserve all they get in my book. It's the only language they'll understand

As you found out, the compliments far exceed the ignorant digs. Keep on kilting proudly.

Clearly, those teens were outnumbered. They sensed it even before the rude skirt comment.
