    Caledonia Tartan MADNESS!

Thanks to an interesting turn of events, I will soon be the owner of not just one, but two Caledonia tartan kilts... one of which a USAK Casual and the other a 8-yard made by Gabriel of SHO.

Awhile back I contacted SHO to have a Welsh National PV made - unfortunately the stock of Welsh Nat. in PV was gone and wasn't scheduled for a re-weaving for quite some time. After some deliberation I chose the Caledonia modern. My preference for PV is twofold... one of which being cost (I'm in the process of losing about 3/5ths of my bodyweight and don't want to invest in a tank until I know what my measurements will be), the other of which being, well, I live in Florida... and it's unbearably HOT right now. So... Caledonia it is. I've been informed that Mr. Jones is about to be slain, that kilt will be in my hands within a week or so...

A week or so ago, our own member Andrew Green sold off some kilts that had expanded (lucky guy) and one of which was a USAK Casual in Ancient Caledonia. I couldn't pass up the price and I received said kilt last night. The fit is great for my size/shape and will make a fantastic pub and throwing kilt for the field.

The Ancient looks really good with my burnt orange cheapie hose I got from Sockdreams... moreso than I would have expected (there is no orange in the Caledonia ancient). Now I have to find a garter tie color that goes well with burnt orange. The added benefit of the Sock Dreams hose is that the fabric used is much cooler than even the soccer socks I normally wear for warm weather and games competition kilting, while still looking like hose (despite the lack of a built-up cuff).

Pics soon enough. I was going to wait until both kilts were here but I think I need an excuse to wear the USAK again.

You are a very lucky man - congratulations on your new acquisitions!

I, too, was pleasantly surprised by the Sock Dreams diamond rib socks; for $8 a pair, I was expecting much lower quality. They don't compare to my Lewis hose, but are a great deal for the money nonetheless.

I am looking forward to seeing your kilts in action!

I am not sure about your Ancient Caledonia but mine:

in 16 oz wool Marton Mills Jura sure does have an awful lot in it, all the ancient red is a vivid orange color which is stronger than even my melon-colored hose I wear with it. Just looked at a thread by Riverkilt in his AC as well, which looks definitely orangish. Maybe the MM PV is a different color for the ancient red threads. Would love to see pics of your two new Caledonias when available for posting. Congrats.

Wow that is the nicest colour palette I've seen Caledonia woven in!

Which weight, which mill, if I may ask?

    Lovely!

    Here's the USAK

Wife got this shot while I was brushing the pleats... started laughing and refused to take a second "pleat shot". I guess I'm stuck with it... (of course, her laughter was enough to ignore the fact that I am totally eyeballing the very attractive jogger downstairs...)

When I get the SHO next week, I'll hopefully remember this thread...

It is a very smart tartan; the sett, the colours. One can easily observe the subtle similarities between the Caledonian tartan and the Macpherson red tartans - reference Wilson's of Bannockburn. I am sure Matthew Newsome et al, can better 'chime' in with regards to that particular topic. Just thought I'd make quick note of it! You gents look very smart!

I really love the Caledonian Tartan. If kilts are chick magnets this tartan multiplies the effect. This is my USAK casual.

    Congrats on your treasures!

It is such a beautiful tartan! Find myself choosing to wear it often. One thing that surprised me is that it also goes well with brown/leather accessories. Brings out the light blue in the tartan methinks.

Don't short out your brainpan wondering which Caledonia tartan kilt to wear...
