Calling all pipers!
What does your band wear, or what tartan do you wear when piping?
When I was with my former band, the Shamrock Club of Milwaukee, we wore solid Kelly Green. Now, that I'm a solo piper, I wear Gordon Dress. I'm thinking of joining the Clan MacAlpine band in Rockford. They wear (what else?) MacAlpine.

The Fort Worth Scottish wears Inverness. Simple and easy to spot. For solo I wear either Black Watch or Ancient Caledonian.

Cabar Feidh
The band I am with, Cabar Feidh, wears the Modern Wilson. My personal kilt for all other piping (usually) is Ross Weathered Hunting. Thinking of a more "formal" looking kilt for solo gigs...maybe one of the dress Ross.

The first band I was in in Grand Rapids, MI wore Ancient Wilson. It was the first tartan with orange that I liked. Nice, muted colors. Then they went to Baird. A nice dark blue tartan, but a bad choice for a band, IMO. A band needs a bright tartan that's easy to spot. Red should be a requirement. Except for the massed bands at a highland games, they'll stand out. People who hire bands like flashy kilts.

My son pipes with the Montreat Scottish Society band, and they have their own tartan.

The pipe band in Stone Mountain wears the Murray of Atholl tartan. They are the Atholl Highlanders. I can't speak on the rest of the uniform but in summer they usually just wear the miltary style shirts with eppauletts and a glengarry.

Both the Caledonian Pipes and Drums of Buffalo, whom I'm learning from now, and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, my alma mater, wear the Royal Stewart. And I've seen a few other bands in Royal Stewart.
But I've also seen pipers wearing the Earl of St. Andrews, Saffron, Buchanan, Hunting MacLeod, Duncan, Gordon, MacGregor Glengyle, and a few others that I can't handily identify.
I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.
