Casual Kilt shirt for those of us "of size"

I have been looking for a casual kilt shirt (somewhere between a t-shirt and dress shirt) and was drawn to the Jacobite style but whenever I saw them I thought of Jerry Seinfeld’s “pirate shirt”. Just too costumey for me.

I saw this as a modern take on that style. What do you think?

It looks nice, I'm sure it would go well with a kilt.

If you are looking for something with just slightly more jacobite flair how about a Heritage shirt from Empire Canvas Works? I have one and wrote a review here with pictures:

It has a fuller sleeve like the jacobite shirt but sturdy snaps instead of ties that give it a modern look. It well designed and very tough (not to mention very comforatble).

    Cheers

That would work, and not a bad price either.

The shirt looks fine. Just choose the colour to tone carefully, and you'll look good.

Man, that's a great find - rugged, but not frilly or "Renn Faire" looking.
I think I'll get one! Thanks for the link!

I'm with ya. I find Jacobite shirts to be a bit anachronistic w/ a modern kilt -- two different eras. In my opinion (and, it's only an opinion...) they make the whole kilt outfit look like it's a costume, and take away from the legitimacy of the kilt as a proper garment.

One other very functional aspect of this one I just thought of -- whether you're tall or not, by buying an extra tall size -- you get the "pseudo underwear/liner" effect of having your shirt tails cover your, ahem, nether regions, which is historically accurate, more sanitary (easier to throw the shirt in the wash than the kilt), and more comfortable.

    Thanks again for the link!

All those pockets on the tactical shirt (hidden and not) may just eliminate the need for a sporran

As a "Gentleman of Substance" I thought the shirts looked pretty good and were well priced, as a matter of fact, I bookmarked the site for future reference.

If you decide that you need a shirt a little more dressy, I would suggest you contact Steve at Freedom Kilts. He makes a beauty shirt, tailor made for kilting.
