    CBS Sunday Morning Kilts

Did any one else see the article about Road Bowling in Ireland WV? Vwey interesting bit on a sport last played in USA by Irish soldiers during the War of Southern Aggression. Showed a piper leading a group of citizens and the it showed a Kilted layer. Interesting report. I had never heard of Irish road bowling. Must watch where I drive in WV.
Still, out, standing in my field.

Fun segment! Time to start forming teams for interstate "Irish Road Bowling" competitions. The prize for each match could be a keg of Guiness....

I remember seeing road bowling several years ago in a documentery on Ireland. It would be a challenge to play here in the mtns. of North Ga.

I am sure Road Bowling is a challenge in West Virginia. I lived there for a few years and I don't recall seeing a road straight enough or flat enough to bowl on.

After a quick visit to Google and Wikipedia I realize that I have seen Road Bowling on one or another travelogue on PBS...possibly on Globe Trekker (don't ya just love that show?)...but when it got brought up here I sort of blanked out and my imagination took over.

Now somehow (don't ask me how) I had this image of people pushing empty (hopefully) beer kegs along a road using the bumpers of their cars...this taking place AFTER the keg has been emptied by the participants.

Probably the notion of it originating in Ireland had something to do with this leap of the imagination. Now, I certainly don't want to belabor any connection between the Irish and the consumption of alcohol...I have many aquaintances of Irish origin and can certify that they have as much self-control as the next man...they are just very selective about when they choose to exercise it.

As I think of it the format that I imagined above may very well exist in some way...possibly as a form of polo played on auto tracks usually reserved for demolition derbies....

Actually, that's a close description of a common event at motorcycle rallies: the keg push. You must stay within your lane and race to the finish line- and it's harder than it looks!
