Celtic shops in Boston

I will be in Boston this upcoming week. Can anyone recommend Celtic shops in the general area.

Where in Boston will you be? Maybe a kilted meeting? There are many Celtic themed outlets in the city, what are you looking for? More than happy to track down that which you seek.

You should be able to find a lot of "Celtic" items in a whole variety of places in Boston, since that is the name of their professional basketball team----jerseys, basketballs, hats, jackets, etc...

Oh, maybe you meant "celtic" as in ethnic terms---sorry, can't help you there.

Finding kilts not being worn nearly imposable, finding Irish shops easy, finding a kilt wearer difficult as they are spread far too thin in a crowded population.

I will be staying in Newton and working in Waltham. I will be bringing and wearing some of my kilts. I am just looking around ... and of course will probably find something to buy. Irish or Scottish shops are what I am interested in.

Well, there's the Atholl Brose in Cambridge.

It's a tiny little shop with somewhat idiosyncratic hours, but the proprietress, Evelyn Murray, is a respected kilt-maker and President Emerita of the New Hampshire Gathering of Scottish Clans (aka, New Hampshire Highland Games).

It's actually nicely situated for you, too, just steps from the Porter Square commuter rail station, which is accessible from Waltham via the Fitchburg/South Acton line.

FYI - Atholl Brose is closed, although their sign is still up. I'm told that they may still be doing some sort of mail/phone orders, but I heard that the owners were elderly and health issues may have undone the shop. There aren't any kilt makers/sellers in the metro area at present. There's a decent Irish import place a few blocks up from where the Atholl Brose used to be on the left hand side of Mass Ave, heading to Harvard Sq from Porter. Good luck. Word is that there's an indoor piping contest being held at Northeastern in March (maybe the 27th?); about as kilt friendly as you can get in Boston, after St Pat's Day.

That's too bad to hear. I checked out their booth at the St. Andrew's festival here in CT this fall.
