    Clan Crest Badge on Sporran

Got 2 of my 3 Amerikilts yesterday. Wore the TanAK today with kilt hose and flashes. Didn't like the look of a kilt pin on the apron, so I got the idea of wearing a clan crest badge on the flap of the sporran. The flap is large enough to accomodate about a 2" diameter crest badge. I thought this would look good when dressing up an Amerikilt, so I ordered a Kennedy Clan crest badge in pewter from the Scottish Tartans Museum today.

Really won't know if it will look as good as I think it will on the sporran until I try it.

When I was surfing the web for a sporran a while back, most any site with much of a selection would have a leather sporran with your clan crest available. Don't know if that's what inspired you or you thought of this yourself, but it's good thinking & should look sharp.

I wear a crest badge on the front flapof my everyday sporran. I don't often wear a bonnet, and never wear a crested kilt pin, so this was the perfect place to display the crest.

We have been discussing the Ulster Scots over the past several days, the kilt behind that sporran is in the Ulster Red Tartan.

Did you just punch a hole (awl) in the flap to get the pin through? By the way, Nice Kilt.

On the sporran that I have, the top layer of the leather was supple enough that I just was able to push the pin right through.

Thanks for the compliments on the kilt -- it's one that I made for a fellow member of this forum!

I put my X-Marks kilt pin on the flap of my sporran. It looks good.

    Matt,

That clan crest badge on that Buzz Kidder sporran looks wonderful. That is one beautiful tartan. And, of course, I ordered my clan crest badge from the Scottish Tartans Museum because everything of have gotten there is top-notch quality, and it also supports the museum.

Actually, I thought of it myself, but I see it's not a new idea. Darn I was hoping to get a patent, become a millionare, and triple the number of kilts that Hamish has. :-D
