Classic wedding experience
So I went to a work mate's wedding a few days ago. Was just wonderful! Thought I might share a little of it with you all...
My mate married a Korean girl in a mixed church ceremony and all and sundry turned up. I was 5 mins late, wearing my Argyle outfit, and there were about 50+ people - mainly Korean - waiting outside the church. We thought, "good, they're running late." And so a few of us milled about for a few minutes. Everyone was dressed smartly in suits and ties and then there was me in my Scott Green Modern standing out like dog's b***s. Koreans seem to be very short too which made me stand out further... I'm only 5'10" but seem to be head and shoulders above.
Anyway, after a few mins I decided to stick my head in the church to see how it was filling up. And it was full! And not only that the ceremony was underway! Seems the Bride is the most punctual in history. So when I've stuck my head in the door the pews closest to me turned to look. Then, with quiet murmurings, most of the assembly turned to look at the guy in the kilt! I quickly made my exit and waited for the ceremony to conclude, to meet the Bride and Groom as they exited.
As I waited outside I must have had my photo taken a dozen times and was filmed on several movie cameras. Why weren't they inside filming and photographing the wedding?!
After the wedding concluded a group of us drove to the Fire Station where I work and went for a walk to get a cuppa before the reception. We're all well known in our area as being the Firey's up the road and we sure drew some attention on our walk down the street - as we weren't in our uniforms for once. Two people shook my hand. A few girls said hello and there were looks aplenty. I reckon I'm getting the hang of picking the admiring/positive looks from the disapproving/uncomfortable looks (I reckon the people who seem disapproving are just annoyed they're not getting the attention or else they have hang ups of their own).
Later, at the reception several people approached me and asked why I was wearing a kilt. I mostly replied that it beats wearing a suit. A couple asked if I was Scottish and I replied you needn't be to wear it. These Q's were mainly from the Caucasian crowd and seemed to stem from genuine interest and admiration (I believe).
When we sat at the table one of the Korean gents from earlier approached me. He'd loosened up with a few drinks apparently and he bounced over in his circa 1960's tails with a curious pattern (think subtle checkered 60's wallpaper) and said with an enthusiastic smile, "Oh yes, you wear craaaaazy traditional type craaaaazy outfit, yes?" Feeling his upbeat approach I replied enthusiastically , "I guess I am," hoping he was going to engage me in a craaaazy conversation. But, instead, he took off with, "Wait craaaazy guy. I come back." He flashed off and left us all wondering where he was headed. Seemed anything might happen. A couple of minutes later he returned with a girl under each arm. The girls obviously weren't sure what was happening either as he muttered to them in Korean and sat them in the two spare seats at our table. Then he announced, "These are my daughter!" And he turned to leave again, and added, "and they're SINGLE! Hahahaha." He threw his head back and laughed maniacally before moving to the next table to razz up more guests. We laughed so hard that we were all nearly crying. The girls just said, "Dad is crazy, he does things like this all the time." He's obviously great fun whenever he's had a few!!!
The groom's father felt a need to hug me every time I passed him (I think he was happy to see someone of the same extraction as himself) and there was plenty of fun and laughter - not least because of the need for all the speeches and announcements to be made in both languages. Some of the jokes just didn't translate which was sooo funny just in itself.
Was such a great night and a perfect kilt outing!!!

When Laine Kim got married, a similar question got asked. The answer? "Seventy-five Koreans; fifty chairs!"
Sounds like a great reception... best wishes to the bride and groom!

Well?.......did you get their phone numbers?
Still, out, standing in my field.
Never do anything that you would not want to explain to the paramedics.

Priceless! One of the better wedding stories I've read.
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)
Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.
7/5 of the world's population have a difficult time with fractions.

Yeah, was a great time. Nah, didn't get the numbers. The poor girls dashed off at first opportunity to be with their friends. All were about 15 years younger than me!!
