    Climbing Kilimanjaro in 2011

In June of 2011 I am going to attempt to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, all 19,340 feet of it.! I am doing this for the charity Diabetes UK. My youngest son is diabetic.

I have a question: is it allowed to develop a thread where I include a link to a donation site specifically geared to my efforts, or is this against the rules?

BTW, I'd be lying if I said I'd be going to the roof of Africa in a kilt! It gets too darned cold and windy up on top, even for me, and it would be technically difficult at times too in anything but more appropriate clothing.

I will, however, be taking a Saltire!

Help, please, from the Mods etc.

    Regards

    Bruce

I wonder if the wee airship is available for this journey?

Good luck! I did Kilimanjaro in 1979, and it was quite a journey. The view from the top is spectacular. Your decision about not wearing the kilt is wise -- very windy and cold on the top!

    Well done you!

I bet there was more snow in the glaciers in your time.

Airship? Do you mean in a steampunk sorta way?

Before I go ahead and give more background, I just need to know if being a member of this forum is enough to do a thread with a link?

Have you PM'd one of the MODs? They don't always read every new post......

(And yes, there was a lot of ice, etc., in my time -- wow, 30 years ago!)

    Doh!

I see what you mean! I'll try to get a copy made and take it up, especially if that'll help with getting the Mods to agree!

Well, folks, I've heard back from the Mods and here goes...another way of looking at my efforts is this:

In June 2011 I'll be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, to raise funds for Diabetes UK as my youngest son is diabetic. If you'd like to find out more about my reasons for going to a mountain that kills on average 30 people a year when attempting to summit, please visit my link at:

I'll be taking a Saltire and something akin to the X Marks airship up the 19,340 feet!

    Slainte and wish me luck!

    Best of luck!

The highest I ever climbed was 14,443 ft. Kilimanjaro is on my list.
I reserve the right to be wrong.

if you wore your kilt, you might get frost on your crampons
