    Convalescence in the kilt

I recently had laser eye surgery and the first couple days of recovery were especially unpleasant. As a martial artist, I elected for the PRK type of procedure because it maintains the integrity of the eye better. Unfortunately, it heals more slowly and is more painful...

Upon arriving home, I could not get comfortable with either of my default comfort clothing options: MacQuarrie Works model Sport Kilt or pajamas. Too hot then too cold and back again... in desperation, I strapped on my four yard, 16 oz, Douglas kilt and voila! I was able to relax and heal.

I am positing that the wool kilt was the key to what my doctor says is an above average recovery. Anyone else have similar experiences? Healed by the kilt I say!

A kilt is good for healing - wool makes it that much better.

    Wool -- the wonder drug!

Wool -- it does a body good!

Congratulations on the good recovery. Do you think you could get your doctor's endorsement? Maybe a prescription for a kilt?

Yeah, I agree, just don't apply directly to wound.

There is of course the 'Placebo Effect'. It is a well known saying here in the UK "A little of what you fancy does you good." And of course, it is true. You put on your best kilt; you feel good about yourself; your body repairs itself faster.

This is the best argument for everybody owning a tank that I have ever heard.

After spending most of the spring, summer and part of the fall in shorts, sometimes going back to jeans can be...rough on the inner thigh. Last year, a doctor prescribed an ointment and loose clothing. I aksed about my kilt and he said, perfect! The medicine was not taken at work, though.

What martial art do you study? I study Shotokan karate and Jiujitsu myself. I practice kata in my yard with my basket hilt. My neighbors think I'm crazy. Insanity- it's better than any home security system!
