| | | Curious about an online vendor
Has anyone done business with thefrugalcorner.com. It is an online kilt and accessory store. The website is still under construction, but the prices seem reasonable. The product seems similar to what SWK has. I was wondering about quality and trustworthyness. If anyone has in info please advise
Thank you for your help,
Graham

You would be hard pressed to beat the service that you would get from Jerry@SWK or Rocky@USAk.

Product is similar to SWK though with a wider range of tartans. They had some problems in the past but only - IIRC - with promises made on items not in stock. Haven't ordered in a while. If I wanted another cheap kilt I'd use again.

Hi Graham,
I own a Frugal Corner lightweight and a heavyweight. The attention to detail on the heavyweight has got to be seen to be believed. I also own a Scottish 'tank'. The only difference between the two is the material. The tank is wool and the Frugal Corner heavyweight is acrylic, but the construction is exactly the same.
Both my Frugal Corner kilts were on back order, but were delivered well before the stated time and I live in the UK.
I am now moving over to only wearing woollen kilts, but if I was in the market for a quality acrylic kilt I would go back to them.
Regards Chas

My first kilt came from Jerry and I have my eye on a couple of Rocky's.

I took a look at the Frugal Corner website and was surprised to see that they stock (stock kilts?) kilts by waist measurement and even if they custom make one for you the only extra measurement they want is the length and only then in half inch increments. Everything I've read says you should have a waist, hip and length measurement and that a proper kilt is a bespoke garment. we're all built differently and will a kilt hang properly if the individual's hip measurement is not taken into account?
I do not yet own any kilts so this is all "book learnin'" but it does seem to fly in the face of convention and tradition to sell by waist size without reference to hip size.
Regards,
Brian

Brian K, what you are referring to is the difference between a custom tailored garment and an off the shelf garment. You are correct that a tailored garment really does fit better, and this includes a jacket, shirt, trousers, and yes, a kilt. (as well as most any other garment)
For most of us that are of a somewhat standard shape and size, off the shelf garments are OK. Not as good as a tailored garment, but adequate. Here is where some will disagree, but I think this includes an off the shelf kilt as well; not as good, but adequate.

Hello,
I did a side by side review on the FC's heavy weight and a SWK Standard a while back. Check the archives and I think you'll find it hanging about somewhere. One thing though, since I did the review, FC has had a price increase, his heavy weight used to be around $90.00 US and now they are over $100 US, Jerry's price is still the same and you get free flashes from SWK with his standard. Flashes are an extra $10-12.00 from FC.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Brian
