Dentist on saturday morning
I have a temporary filling on one tooth, waiting for my next appointment in 2 weeks, and Friday night the damn filling broke and fell out.
OUCH is right.
Luckily there is an InstaDentist franchise close to home so I managed to get in on Saturday morning, and being that I felt like soldiering on through the dentist visit, I decided to wear my 'full' Black Watch regalia (brown army shirt, BW kilt, lovat greens w/ red flash, plus belt and sporran).
To my pleasant surprise (and I learned this on the spot), apparently weekend mornings is a the s**tty shift and generally the staff is made of fresh out of school personnel.
So, there I was in my full kilt facing an early 20s receptionist who couldnt stop staring.
Then when they called me in, 3 dental assistants all in their early 20s and the actual dentist, who was also in her early 20s were waiting for me.
Needless to say, all 5 of them ganged up briefly and were going apes**t for a couple minutes.
that's cool looking up and down the kilt, why are you wearing it?, that's cool (actually grabbing my kilt pin), are you a scot?, are you wearing anything under your kilt?, can I touch it? (the fabric you pervs), etc.
This lasted from the moment I entered the actual procedures area until I finally seat in my dental chair, which thankfully was in the upright position.
Then as I was laying flat with the dentist over me, the assistant again grabbed the kilt pin and asked if I would sell it to her.
I must admit that I have to surrender my man card, but I did not sell it to her, and I did not offer to give it to her either.
$19.95 plus shipping, are you nuts?

all in all a fantastic morning, they got my filling taken care of and besides the playful intro, they were all professionals as I expected them to be.
slainte!

For just a second I thought I was in the Penthouse Forum instead of XMarks the Scot!

Between the pharmacy and the dentist, you seem to attract a lot of people with boundary issues. But it does make for entertaining reading, so who am I to complain?

One of the benefits of living in a small town I guess.

This pretty much covers it. If I happen to make it out your sometime we'll have to get together. I'm sure it would be a blast.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

well the fact that im self deprecating also helps when attracting people or having a fun time while out kilted.
for instance with these girls at the dentist, after half my face was numb, I started joking that I was probably drooling or something and if they would be kind enough to let me know so I wouldnt make a fool of myself on my way out wearing a kilt and drolling all over myself.
for some reason they thought it was hilarious and 'charming'.
nothing better than getting people to laugh WITH you and not AT you.

It might have seemed the same to me, but at a Kilt Night last weekend, one of the guys told a story about taking a friend (also kilted) to a str#p joint and the reaction of the str#pp#rs. But this is a family friendly forum, so I can't share it here.

That reminds me to make an appointment too. I lost a filling half the size of my tooth mid June and not done anything about it yet. My dentist and assistant are female too. I wouldn't go in a kilt though, don't want them taking advantage of me or anything! (I should be so lucky)
