Do you play the pipes also?

So we just got back from a wedding last week where my youngest son and I were kilted (with permission from the bride). We recieved many gracious comments and a wide variety of questions. Including "May I take your picture?", "Yes you may, but the bride is over there."

The one question I got the most though was...do I play the pipes also? I guess that's a fair question considering what we were wearing, it's just that I really didn't expect that to be the number one question of the day. I was expecting "The Question".

I get that question, but there's usually a set of pipes on my back when they ask.

Are you joking? Do people actually ask that when you have your pipes on you?

I actually get that question a lot. I think that's a small part of the reason I started- so I can say "Why yes, I do!"

It gets even more confusing when I am asked that question and I say "No I don't, but I am in a pipe band." They often don't realize there are drummers as well.

I do like your gracious attempt to keep the focus on the wedding couple. How kind!

I have had several pipers tell me the same thing. Do you have any idea why they do that? Do they think you are holding them for someone else? I would think if you see someone holding a set of pipes, your first question would be more along the lines of how long the person had been playing, not do they play the pipes.

Last time I was asked "where are your bagpipes" was by an Asian doorman at the hotel I was staying in Chicago. When I responded "where are your chopsticks" he had the decency to look embarrassed. There were no remarks for the rest of the stay, other than very pleasant greetings as we can and left.
