Does anyone feel the same - X Marks the Scot

New year has come and gone with Burns Night celebrations fading into memory and for those addicted to wearing the kilt, there appears nothing on the horizon but drought and famine for the next few months.
Perhaps in Scotland we were spoiled by so many Homecoming events last year together with highland games, national football matches and a few weddings. It certainly was a vintage year for kilt wearers here in Scotland.

Possibly it could be the winter blues that I am suffering from as we are experiencing the coldest winter in years and when we look back at the events of last year, it is easy to become nostalgic.

So do any other X-Markers feel that same feeling of no impending kilt opportunities and how do you deal with this addiction?

I certainly know the feeling at this time of year, but with lots of Scottish Country Dancing I have lots of occasions to be kilted at monthly dances and twice weekly classes.

Also many kilted friends here in London. More than enough events and socials to get kilted!

On this side of the Atlantic we at least have National Tartan Day, April 6 to look forward to.

But like the others, who needs an occasion to wear a kilt?

I agree, wear the kilt.. Just because you can... and see how many people think you are a Yank tourist....lol

I have my birthday this weekend to celebrate kilted (might even have one or more new ones to celebrate in), St Paddy's day middle of next month (I know, a "pseudo" celebration for scottish kilties but an excuse over here at least), then Tartan Day in early April. The games should be cranking up shortly thereafter for the late spring and summer weekends. And any day can be a kilt night out if you make the effrort to set one up with your local kilties.

I do agree it has been a long and particulalry cold and snowy winter which would normally have me in the blue funk right about now but for some reason I am looking forward to the weather break and spring with great anticipation--for some personal and family reasons, and becasue I see 2010 being a breakthrough year for me personally and professionally, so it is easy to feel better when good things are actually forecast.

Chin up, then chin down with your scotch glass bottom up. If nothing to celebrate, find something or just make something up and do so. A gathering of friends is always an excuse to break out a smile and good cheer. Try a whisky tasting where everybody brings a different bottle to sample. Try a gathering to watch a rugby match or football match or even the end of the Olympics. There has got to be something to give you reason to cheer.

Know the feeling, been looking at the scedule for Highland Games that are coming up, wishing they were closer or that I could afford to head south to Florida to catch some early Games.

St. David's Day, March 1.

St. Piran's Day, March 5.

St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

Tartan Day (Declaration of Arbroath), April 6.

Battle of Culloden, April 16.

Battle of Bannockburn, June 21.

Sean Connery's Birthday is August 25, so that's later in the year...

...but Ewan MacGregor's Birthday is March 31!

Sheena Easton B-Day: April 27!

James Watt, inventor of the steam engine (and the method of rating electric guitar amps

) born on January 29, so that's a bit early...

...and remember that, on December 25, you're not just celebrating Christmas, you're also celebrating Annie Lennox's Birthday...I wonder if she got stiffed on presents what with the birthday on Christmas..

And Gordon Brown's Birthday is February 20...so party on, Mister Prime Minister!

See...if you look, there are LOTS of kilt wearing holidays to celebrate. And that will just have to hold ya' until Highland Games season begins.

(I still think that we have to come up with a Winter version of Highland Games just to fill in the long Winter months...kilted figure skating, anyone?)

I've been thinking about this, and agree with everyone re. not needing a reason, but if you Do require a reason, there are surely Birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions (Eating out, etc) as well as holidays, to fill in the gaps.
This is purely academic for me, as I don't own a kilt!
