Dream Kilt

After owning dozens of kilts over the years, my wife out did her self. While in Scotland on vacation she allowed me to purchase a custom fitted, hand sewn, kilt from Geoffrey Tailor at the Royal Mile Store. My clan tartan of Ancient Lamont out of 9 yards. Now just have to wait the 10 weeks to have it made and shipped.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas and can't thank my wife enough !!!

That really is something to "'dream" about for the next 10 weeks or so, Mr Jones. Congrats, pending receipt of said kilt and posting of photos wherein it is being worn by you. First rule of Xmarks (unofficial of course but stringently adhered to) is "No pictures, it did not happen."

Okay, I'm a newbie to the whole kilt-owning community and experience. But I can't fathom owning DOZENS of kilts. For me, they really need to mean something; I am eagerly anticipating my clan tartan (MacDonald [aka MacDonnell] of Keppoch Ancient), and my first is a USMC Leatherneck. Beyond those, I can only conceive of owning any kilts I may wear in future pipe bands. I guess my biggest question is how hard is it to find occasions or excuses to wear a kilt outside of Highland festivals, piper performances, or truly special occasions like a wedding/funeral?

I guess it depends on your definition of "special occasion." For some on this forum, Tuesday is enough of a reason. In addition to the ones you've mentioned, personally, I have worn one to the local community theatre production of Brigadoon. I've worn one to an English country dance class taught by a friend of mine. It has also worked going to a few concerts. Different kilts for diffrent occasions. Also different levels of dress up/down. Wear your kilt whereever you feel comfortable. You will probably find you feel comfortable more often than you would have thought.

It's not difficult at all to find an excuse to wear a kilt. The sun rose this morning - Ah, great day for a kilt! I'm looking down at the clean side of the grass instead of up at the dirty side - Let's clelebrate by strapping on a kilt!
But you get my drift here.
