    Etiology of the Jones

Sorry in case this was covered, but where does the concept of "the jones" come from? I definitely know it as a verb and a noun, but can anyone (or everyone) fill in the blank here?
    Peace to you,

It comes from drug slang. One who is desperate for a drug they are addicted to is said to be "on a Jones," though I couldn't tell you why.

The definition of jones can be found at urbandictionary.com. I too had to look up the meaning when joining XMarks. Jonesing and My bad!
