Today my copy of " The history of Tartan " by Iian Zaczek arrived from Amazon.co.jp I've only had a quick look through it but it's a fantastic book for the price it was very cheap here in Japan and proberly the same from Amazon.com in the US. It's filled with some fantastic color plates showing kilt wearers through the ages etc. If you are looking for a good inexpensive tartan history book this is the one , I'm looking forward to lighting my pipe & drinking a dram or two while reading it this evening.
