| | | First decent kilt pictures of my first kilt
Back at Christmas, my wife (with the help of her mother) bought me my first kilt, a USAK Casual MacNaughton. I've quite enjoyed wearing it and all the freedoms that come with it! As I wore it and became more familiar with it, I realised there must be some discrepancy in the measurements. I had some "stage curtaining" of the pleats at the back of each hip area. I chatted with Rocky and he suggested we send it in to him and he would double-check the measurements and get back with me. Well, sure enough, the foul up was our own... Rocky told me about their very reasonable alteration fee and I took him up on it!
So I just got it back yesterday and it looks and fits great! So I decided to wear it to run some errands today. No direct comments but I was amazed by the way that conversations about St. Patrick's Day followed me everywhere! haha These are the pictures of the way I wore it today. The shirt is Converse and I settled for the grey socks for lack of anything cooler than full kilt hose... I know it's not exactly 'traditional' but I'd welcome any advice to make it better! Fire away, Gentlemen!

The kilt looks grand on you. And it's wonderful to have a supportive wife (AND mother-in-law!).
Can you describe what you mean by "stage curtaining"? I have one casual kilt from Rocky that I adore, but I'm seriously considering a pilgrimage to his shop to have him personally measure me for my next kilt just to be sure it fits absolutely perfectly.

Kilt and sporran look great. Good choice. Obviously kilt hose would be more traditional. One suggestion would be regarding the kilt pin. although there are no hard and fast rules, and a lot of folks wear things whereever they please (it is a free country afterall), I personally try to center my kilt ppin on a prominent vertical stripe, or the intersection of two interesting identical crossing stripes. It seems to add some symmetry to the presence of the kilt pin on the field of tartan, as if it was carefully and artfully positioned rather than just put on in about the right place. Minor detail, though, really, but sometimes the devil is in the details.
Wear it with pride, as I think you already are from the smile on your face--a true look of contentment.

Just a matter of an inch in the waist and an inch in the hips were ALL the difference! I'll take a pleat shot sometime tomorrow and show you the change, if you'd like... I think it's pretty obvious what the problem is here! Triple-checking my measurements next time!! They did a great job altering mine! If you're unsure about your fit, give him a call. He was very helpful with me over the phone, even waiting patiently on the other end while my lovely Bride measured me yet AGAIN to get the measurements absolutely correct. It's worth a shot, I'd say! Jeff | Good tip on the kilt pin! Yeah, I'm always at a loss on where that blasted thing should go... haha I'll give the centering technique a try next time. And you are right, 'contentment' IS the word!

I'm glad the re-working of the kilt fits so much better now. It was no problem to fix for you (it was REALLY no problem for me as Mac did the work ). I'm just glad you have a kilt that fits properly now and know your proper measurements.
For those who can't tell the difference, the kilt was a bit 'droopy' or 'roomy' at the bottom of the fell, which let the material fall on itself and be 'wavy' (like stage curtains). Turns out the measurements his wife provided were a bit big in the hips. Mac took all the pleats apart and re-angled them to the proper measurements and now the back sits firmly across the hips.

Also, as a company, a kiltmaker and a human being, I thank you for contacting me directly first about the issues you had with the kilt so that we could discuss it ourselves, figure out the cause and come to an appropriate solution together. It speaks to your character and allowed us to provide you with some customer service!

As for the measurements, Leslie (my wife) took them in October and it would seem that between then and actually getting the kilt, I lost about 10 lbs... Great beginning to my weight loss/toning goal but a nightmare on custom garments.
