First experience wearing a kilt to work

So I made the plunge and wore a kilt to work on Friday. We don't officially have a dress code but pretty much everyone dresses as business casual.

All in all in was a very good experience and I'm glad I did it. Of course I was asked "The Question" so many times it made my head spin. However, thanks to some snappy comebacks (but not offensive, of course) I was able to keep things a mystery. I had a lot of people tell me, "nice kilt" and over heard one of the security guards at the front desk tell another gaurd: "It's not a skirt, you idiot. It's a kilt; he's Scottish." It made me laugh.

But I think the best part about wearing the kilt was that during our donut break (we always have donuts on Fridays) it got people talking about their ancestries, regardless of where they were from.

As for the kilt, it was unseasonably warm and extremely windy but I seemed to manage fine even when we out for lunch. The biggest problem I had was trying to sit down on my chair without getting the pleats messed up or sitting on a big pile of pleats.

Anyway, thanks for all the support and advice from everyone here. It turned out to be a very wonderful experience.

Nice experience--and you managed to keep the mystery going, too. Excellent!

I might look like I'm doing nothing, but at the cellular level I'm really quite busy.

    Priceless!

I'm glad to hear your first adventure went so well - I hope its is the first of many more kilted days for you. Its amazing how a kilt can spark a genuine interest in other folk's ancestry - I say you done good!

Awesome I wish my bank was as open minded...I keep being told that it's not in the dress code but the managers have always implied after saying that, that it would not be looked upon highly...

Well done, there are a couple of techniques for sitting, either sweep one or both hands behide the kilt as you sit, or squat slightly to allow the kilt to fall a bit in front of the seat and pull the chair forward or move back onto (a fixed) seat. It will soon be second nature, in fact on the rare occasions I'm not wearing a kilt - I still use the 'sweep' to sit out of habit!

    Me too

I have already done that too, just feels natural with a kilt on, but when one does it without a kilt, you really notice that you shouldn't be doing that then.

    DALE.
