    Talking First X-Kilt is done!

Well, I got it done. It took around 18 hours to make, and I made a few mistakes along the way. Not terrible ones, though. For instance, I got the inner over apron folds all wrong, and the fell taper seems a little uneven, but I think I'll be able to fix it up right, after I learn a few more things about tailoring. All in all, though, I think I did alright, for a first try.

Sorry no pics yet. I'll get 'em up as soon as I get some taken.

I gotta say, I'm REALLY liking the way it feels to wear. I don't get that "exposed" feeling I was thinking I would get. Also, it's surprising how not cold it is out in the winter air. I was out scraping ice off the porch for 20 minutes yesterday, and never really got very chilled at all.

I still haven't worn it anywhere yet, though. I think I'll give that a try tonight when I go after dinner.

I think I got enough material left over to make another one, so I'll start on that ASAP. I believe you guys were right. These things, I think, might be addictive. I'm already thinking of more of 'em.

    Until next time -Steve

Good on ya, mate! You got the equipment together, took and deep breath and did something new that you'd never done before. I bet it looks just fine, and you know what? The next one will look even better. WELL DONE.

Arg! I must still be a little too new to the forum. I finally got pics loaded onto my 'puter, and now I discover I'm not allowed to post attachments yet. Oh, well, no biggy, I'll get 'em on as soon as I can.

Okay, I finally figured out the "pic posting business"!

Here's my first kilt, complete with chalk lines still on it, a lack of belt loops, and badly in need of a press. Way too long. It seems I'm about 2 inches skinnier and shorter than I thought I was, but not bad for a first try, I think. At any rate, it's comfy as heck, and it'll be good for working in the yard and whatnot.

I've already gotten my 2nd one finished. It turned out a lot better. It's made of black cotton/poly twill, and wears down on my hips where my pants usually go. I'll get pics up as soon as I can.

Looks right good! Sounds like it's an addictive hobby...

...the day will come when you won't be able to resist the challenge to do the whole eight yards, y'know.
