Full-time kiltie since August 2005

August 2005 marked 3 years that I have worn kilts as my daily attire, and 3 years since I joined XMarks. I received my 26th kilt a few weeks ago - a Stillwater Black Watch wool heavyweight. It's superb. Whoever did the pleating job on this one really got it right.

It's hard to express how much I've enjoyed wearing these marvelous garments. I love them all, everything from 16 oz wool 5 yd kilts from Scotland, my Stillwaters (wool & acrylic), my USA kilts, and my Amerikilts.

Although I don't post heavily at XMarks I've loved this forum. I've learned so much here, and been inspired to learn more on my own. There are few places on the web were you can meet such a wonderful group of people.

What other garment can a 61 year old man that walks with a cane wear, that causes women less than half his age to smile, eye him up and down, and come over to have a conversation.

Well done.
I am almost full time kilted but I do very occasionally still wear trousers, maybe one or two days in a month.
I agree, the young women love to see an older guy in a kilt!

You are so right about the ladies' reactions. I am now over 70 and it delights and amazes me how often I get an appreciative smile or comment from ladies much much younger than me when I'm in the kilt. That never happens when I wear trousers. No wonder I am nearly always kilted these days.

You don't have to wait that long to enjoy kilt wearing. I'm in the Air National Guard, and would compare the amount of time I wear my kilt equivalent to that I spend on UTA's and Training. The looks are great and the comfort the same (except for the ridiculously hot days in Florida).

We get some really hot and humid days here in Missouri as well. I don't know what you think about non-traditional kilts, but for those kind of days I wear Amerikilts. Although my normal kilt length is 24", I ordered my Amerikits at 22". I wear them so that the bottom of the kilt hits about an inch above the knee. I don't think they look too short, and when you get that occasional breeze it makes a world of difference in helping to keep you reasonably comfortable.

Wide range of temperatures here. Winter can have days below 0 F, and summer can have days with heat indexes of 105 - 110 F. That's why my kilt collection ranges from 16 oz wool to light weight Amerikilts.
